Advocates for Mandarin Immersion
The Houston Mandarin Immersion Foundation (HMIF) was founded by a dedicated group of educators and parents with a shared vision: to provide children with the gift of bilingual education. Guided by this mission, HMIF established The Mandarin Immersion School of Houston (MISH), an elementary program serving Kindergarten through 5th grade.
At MISH, Mandarin is not just a subject, it is the language of learning. Through our immersion model, students hear, speak, and interact in Mandarin across all subjects each day. This natural, engaging approach fosters true fluency, as children learn through play, projects, and meaningful conversations. Our goal is to prepare students with cultural understanding and language skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
Our Vision
Our vision is to empower children with bilingual fluency, cultural understanding, and a love of learning that prepares them to thrive in a global community through a welcoming, inclusive, and affordable school community. We believe in access to a high-quality Mandarin immersion education, regardless of income or neighborhood. Our vision extends beyond the classroom, building a diverse community where families learn, grow, and celebrate culture together.
